Worth a Double Take: Mirror A-Frames for Cotton On Body

Most A-frames ask you to read them. This one asks you to look at yourself. Cotton On Body in Byron Bay wanted a footpath sign with the same idea as the shop — so we made mirror-finish A-frames with one line cut in black vinyl across the glass-like face: "Worth a double take", signed off with the Cotton On Body logo.
Why a mirror works on a footpath
People walk past printed A-frames every day without breaking stride. They don't walk past their own reflection. A mirror A-frame catches the eye from down the street, then does something a printed board can't: it puts the passer-by right into the sign, head to toe, in whatever they happen to be wearing. For a clothing brand, it's hard to think of a better pitch. It's also the most photographed sign on the street — which is exactly what you want in Byron.

Keeping the message light
With a surface this busy — sky, street, people, whatever's parked nearby — the lettering has to do very little, very well. Two lines, strong black, a relaxed script for "double take" and a clean caps line above it, with the logo small at the base. The reflection does the rest of the work.

Made to go outside
It's still a footpath sign, so it's built like one: a sturdy frame with a carry handle, weighted feet, and lettering that's applied to last through daily setup and pack-down. Same A-frame bones as our standard A-frame signs — just a much more interesting face.
Mirror A-frames on tour
This isn't the first time our mirror A-frames have turned heads. We made one for Black Sheep that stood at the Sydney Marathon Expo — see it in the gallery.
